We're proud to announce the official opening of ComSA (Community for Successful Ageing) at the Whampoa Community Center! Congratulations to the Tsao Foundation team, Whampoa Community Center, and all healthcare partners, friends and families of ComSA Whampoa.
In conjunction with the launch, we hosted the ComSA Forum, welcoming Dr Amy Khor (Senior Minister of State for Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources & Ministry of Health), Mr Heng Chee How (Senior Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office and MP for Jalan Besar GRC), Dr John Beard and Dr Sarah Barber from the World Health Organization, and many other panelists and community members. Some key themes and takeaways from the Forum include: ✦ Creating an ecosystem approach to care by collaborating with multiple stakeholders to build an aged-care service integration hub ✦ Taking a holistic, lifecycle view to care, from preventative care to end of life care ✦ Quantifying and tracking care outcomes through The BPS Metrics - (Bio, Psychological/Emotional, and Social), with the ultimate goal of making evidence-based iterative improvements to design, care quality and scalability ✦ Transforming care recipients to care partners, and encouraging elders to take care of themselves and others And finally, to share some key early learnings from ComSA Whampoa so far... ✦ Community care management to detect 'cold' cases has more challenging than expected ✦ While engaging in outreach to the community, many clients did not see the need for preventative health and care management (!) ✦ Deep-seeded social issues in the families require expertise in mental health, family therapy and dementia *************************** Endnotes: Anne Kim serves as a Board Member of the Tsao Foundation, a non-profit organization where she helps to advocate innovations in community based eldercare, training and education, and policy relevant research. ComSA is Tsao Foundation's innovative, community-focused, grounds-up approach to co-create an integrated system of comprehensive programs and services, and an environment for health, well being, personal growth and empowerment. The ComSA Whampoa Center features: ✦ Hua Mei clinic: primary care clinic focusing on comprehensive BPS care needs for elders ✦ Hua Mei Elder-centered Program of Integrated Comprehensive Care: day care center ✦ Elder Empowerment and Communication Participation Program Center ✦ Learning Room: training for self-care and successful ageing
